Autumn

  In English, the children will be using the story Voices in the Park to learn more about different viewpoints in a story. The children will continue to work on handwriting, sentence structure and spellings. Their writing outcomes will include a character description and a retelling of the story from different viewpoints. .We will move onto Bakers Boy, which tells the story of the Great Fire of London. Their outcome will be writing a diary entry.

After half term, in English, we will be looking at Vlad and the Great Fire of London. The outcome in their writing will be a recount of the events. To finish this half term, the class will focus on A house that once was where our writing outcomes will be exploring questions, statements and exclamations and then will be asked to write their own story of who they think lived in the house.

In Maths, the children will cover the topics listed in the overview. If you would like to support your child at home in one of these areas, then please ask for the Calculation Policy.

This term, in Art the children will be learning about weaving using ,Van Gogh's Starry Night and Edward Munch;s Scream as inspiration to make their own woven piece. Our favourite history unit follows this 'The Great Fire of London'  culminating in the burning of the city!

For Science, the class starts Year 2 by focusing on materials and the suitability of these materials for a variety of products and then begin one of two Living things and their habitat units. The focus of this is to explore the habitats of a variety of creatures, including microhabitats.

For Geography, the children will be exploring their place in the world, focusing on Offerton and Stockport through our local area study unit.
