In Year 2, we expect the children to be:

  • Reading every day
  • Practicing their spellings 4-5 times a week
  • Doing their Maths homework 4-5 times a week
  • Completing their Topic homework for the given dates

If you have any issues regarding homework, please do not hesitate to contact me via email on

To support progress in Reading and Writing, we ask that you read with your child daily.

This daily reading could include them reading aloud to you, you sharing a story with them, reading with a sibling or listening to an audio book.

We do ask that they read the books given to them by their class teachers, but that doesn't mean that they can't share trickier books with adults or read different texts (newspapers, recipes, instructions for games etc.).

Each week, your child will be taught a new spelling rule that they will then be able to practise and apply to their learning.

Each Thursday, the children will have a spelling test.

The tests will be marked and then returned to grown-ups to see.

Your child has be given spellings to support their learning in the classroom and will have been assigned a group number.

Extra spelling practice at home is always super for your child and this could be done in many different ways: drawing the letters in different colours, writing the letters on to long strips of paper to make a crown, or using chalks to write outside.

See link at bottom of page.

Your Maths homework is learning key facts that will help in lots of Maths lessons. Each Thursday, we will have an informal test to check those Maths facts.

See the link below to see what you need to revise ready for each week.

Please continue to revise these throughout the year.

Your topic homework is linked to topic we are learning about in class.

Choose your child’s homework from the grid (see link at bottom of page).

We would like for you to complete at least 3 tasks over the half term.

We would like you to bring your homework book into school to share in class on

Support at Home

I have made teaching videos for grown-ups and children to use at home.

The videos will support learning at home, as you can hear/mirror the language that I use in class.

I have had to upload the videos onto Vimeo.
